The place to begin your journey

Bluewater Trail

Whether it’s a bike ride, run or leisurely stroll, Mackay Waterfront is the place to begin your journey. At approximately 20km in length, the Bluewater Trail winds its way along the banks of the Pioneer River linking key attractions.  The shared bicycle and pedestrian walkway connects public art, historic architecture and points of interest with natural beauty. Some other attractors include Caneland Central, the Bluewater Lagoon, Bluewater Quay, Town Beach, and the Mackay Region Botanic Gardens.

A key feature is the Sandfly Creek Environmental Walk which is visited seasonally by many important migratory shorebird species that hold high environmental and conservation values for the area. . Along the trail you will also find Iluka Park and Quota Park and with a short detour using the cross-city link, Queen’s Park is not too far away.

Another key highlight is there are two public fishing platforms dotted along the Bluewater Trail.  Located at the Bluewater Quay and near the Mackay Base Hospital, the platforms provide another recreational opportunity along the Bluewater Trail.
