Mackay Waterfront Place Strategy
Council has officially endorsed the Mackay Waterfront Place Strategy to continue to activate the Mackay City Centre and Waterfront.
The Mackay Waterfront Place Strategy is a visionary roadmap designed to transform the City Centre and Riverside precincts into vibrant, inclusive and thriving destinations.
The Place Strategy guides ongoing activation and revitalisation in Mackay by making targeted recommendations that can be implemented by community, businesses and Council. The Place Strategy will be used to help make the Mackay Waterfront, City Centre and Riverside a more active and vibrant place for everyone.
It also identifies some vital long-term actions like supporting the growth of a vibrant City Centre evening economy and enhancing the Wood Street and Victoria Street roundabout area as the city’s central landmark.
The Place Strategy offers achievable stepping stones towards reaching the community’s vision, with a part for everyone to play. It focuses on ways to shape, activate and manage public spaces over the short and longer term to unlock potential, remove barriers and achieve growth in a coordinated and sustainable way.
